Issue 28: Rethinking Wealth: What Does It Mean to Truly Prosper?

ISSUE 28

15 JANUARY 2025 | READ ONLINE

Hi Reader,

When you hear the word wealth, what comes to mind?

For most of us, our thoughts might immediately go to money – salary, bonuses, savings, investments. And yes, financial security is important. But the more I reflect, the more I realize wealth is so much more than what’s in your bank account.

Sahil Bloom has been sharing some brilliant insights recently that reframe the entire concept of wealth. I’m looking forward to reading his book when it comes out on February 4th.

After all, wealth isn’t just about what you have. It’s about how you live.

When I look back on my career, there were seasons when I had financial wealth but felt drained of purpose. Other times, I had purpose but struggled to find time for what mattered most. True wealth, it seems, isn’t about chasing more – it’s about redefining enough.

Using Sahil Bloom‘s book as a framework, here are five (5) ways to think about wealth.

  • Financial Wealth: Money in the bank, the traditional definition.
  • Time Wealth: Freedom to spend your time as you choose.
  • Physical Wealth: Good health, energy, and vitality.
  • Social Wealth: A community of meaningful relationships.
  • Mental Wealth: Peace of mind, resilience, and emotional intelligence.

And here’s another one (from me):

  • Purpose Wealth: Living a life aligned with your values.

What Does Your Wealth Portfolio Look Like?

The idea of wealth shifts when you ask yourself these questions:

  • Are you spending your time on what fuels you or just what fills the calendar?
  • Do your relationships energize and uplift you or drain and deplete you?
  • Is your work aligned with your values, or is it just a paycheck?

True wealth isn’t just about adding to your life. It’s about making space for what matters.

Why This Matters for Purpose-Driven Leaders

If you’re in a leadership role, you know how easy it is to prioritize professional goals over personal balance. But here’s the thing: If your own wealth portfolio is off, your impact will be, too.

The most impactful leaders I’ve seen are those who cultivate all dimensions of wealth. They make decisions rooted in clarity, build cultures that prioritize people, and sustain their energy for the long haul.

This week, take a moment to ask yourself:

What type of wealth am I nurturing? And what kind of wealth needs my attention?

What I’m Sharing

Here’s what I’ve been writing about this week on LinkedIn:

💡 “Imagining a World Where Your Career Lights Up Your Soul”: I’m sharing thoughts about what happens when your career is aligned with your values. You can grab a free resource about identifying your values here and read the LinkedIn Post here.

💡 “You Don’t Need a New Job. You Need a New Strategy”: I encourage you to take action and stop waiting for someone to save you. Read it here.

What’s on My Nightstand

📚 Making Changes that Last by Dr. Rangan Chaterjee: I love his podcast, and this book was just as good. More focused on the non-financial elements of wealth and it was recently released.

📚 The Almanack of Naval Ravikant by Eric Jorgenson: It’s like a masterclass on creating wealth, happiness, and fulfillment – highly recommended!
