What happens when 200+ top workplace leaders gather to discuss the future of leadership, impact, and change?
You get raw conversations, bold ideas, and an undeniable reminder that the world of work is shifting fast.
Last week, I was privileged to speak at the OHS Leaders Summit in Australia.
My keynote was titled “How Leaders Win Board Support,” though it was really about more than that.
It was about elevating our voices, translating our work into language that lands, and building the kind of presence that opens doors in the highest rooms of decision-making.
Because no matter your role, you won’t create lasting change unless you’re heard by the people who shape strategy.
Here are three themes that stood out from the conversations last week and why they matter to all of us:
1. Technology is moving fast, but trust moves faster.
AI, dashboards, data, predictive tools – they’re here and changing how we work.
But progress doesn’t come from systems alone. It comes from the trust we build around those systems.
My insight: If you’re leading change, don’t start with the tool. Start with the why. Then, build trust through clarity, communication, and consistency. Tech can support transformation, but only people can lead it.
2. Psychosocial safety is no longer an emerging issue but a leadership priority.
We talked about workload pressure, lack of role clarity, poor communication, and the risks that come not from physical hazards but from how work is designed and experienced.
What became clear is this:
Psychosocial risks aren’t just HR issues. They’re leadership issues.
When the way we lead creates stress, isolation, or burnout, it directly impacts performance, retention, and culture.
My reflection: Leaders need to be fluent in identifying and managing psychosocial risks, both from a compliance lens and as part of building healthier, more sustainable workplaces.
3. Influence isn’t about your presence.
This was the core of my keynote.
The people who shape the future of business aren’t always the ones with the biggest job titles. They’re the ones who know how to show up with clarity, confidence, and relevance, especially when the stakes are high.
Whether pitching a project, leading a team, or presenting to the board, your presence matters more than your credentials.
What I’ve learned: Influence is earned in moments. It’s built through preparation, strategic thinking, and the courage to speak up when it counts.
